The Truth About Anxiety Treatments. A Perspective From A Recovered Victim.
If you are looking for information about the most successful anxiety treatment then you have come to the right place. Anxiety is relatively straightforward to recover from if you get access to the right information and are willing to put that information into practice. It can even be done without medication in many cases. However, as I found out during my own recovery, there are many out there who are happy to take your money in exchange for treatments for anxiety which offer little or no benefit. For example, I spent thousands of dollars on a nutritional detox program because I was told my symptoms were caused by acute mercury poisoning! This detox made me sicker and was a financial burden. Please read this article to learn how to avoid the same mistakes as me.
I became ill with anxiety in 2007 following a particularly stressful year and after getting a very severe virus. One night I fainted through a glass shower door because I was so drained and I awoke to find my pregnant wife screaming and distressed. At this point I experienced my first panic attack. I was admitted to hospital following this, and had batteries of tests performed. I was given an initial (mis)diagnosis of epilepsy and my anxiety went through the roof. When it was later confirmed I didn't have epilepsy the damage had been done and I became obsessed with my health and why I felt so bad. I started to experience all sorts of horrible symptoms and started to avoid situations because of my symptoms and because I was afraid of further panic attacks.
I was given a number of anxiety treatments. Typically doctors tend to want to dish out tablets and pills for anxiety disorders, and will often prescribe anti-depressants, along with anti-anxiety medications like valium, and sometimes also sleeping tablets if anxiety is interfering with your sleep patterns, as it was with me. I tried many of these medications none of which particularly provided much help. Many of the medications left me feeling jaded and sleepy, but did nothing about the anxious thought patterns, and neither did they help the symptoms either. In fact, some of the side effects of the medications were worse than some of the symptoms I experienced.
In addition to the nutritional detox, I also tried acupuncture, meditation, yoga, and deep breathing exercises. I even tried exercise, given that I had been a long time weight trainer for years, but now found that if I trained too hard I would actually experience panic attacks.
The key to recovery is about becoming aware of your thought patterns first, and then learning how to reframe those thought patterns. If you have anxiety related symptoms, you also need to learn how it is possible for an anxious and stressed body to experience an unlimited multitude of symptoms, to stop you from doubting your anxiety diagnosis (as I did).
